body image ltd was a multi-sensory immersive group installation in 2019 at PICA in Portland, OR. it explored topics of surveillance, data collection, and the relationship between humans and technology. from wearable clothing with sewn in speakers or sensors to control audio in the space, to piezo sensors in the floor controlling visuals, this exhibit included a wide range of micro controllers, sensors, hardwawre, and software.

i created a visualization of the matrix rain in JavaScript that was projected onto a cloth stretched over a hexagon frame, projection mapped using MadMapper. next to the projection stood a headless mannequin with a hole in the top and conductive copper tape on the shoulders, wired to a Teensy 3.2.

looking into the hole, visitors see an odd video compilation playing on an ipad that was propped up inside the mannequin. when a visitor would touch the copper tape on the shoulders, it sent a signal to the Teensy 3.2 that was connected to the laptop, triggering a live video from a webcam hidden inside the mannequin to be projected in the middle of the matrix rain. the webcam was fitted and cropped to project only their eye.

while each student had an idea and project they started specifically, this exhibit was largely collaborative and we all helped each other wherever we could.
